Common problems with the E46 are very similar to those with the E36. However, the E46 has a few unique issues of its own. One of the most well-known issues with the E46 is subframe cracking. While there is nothing inherently wrong with the E46 subframe design, repeated stress can cause a fatigue failure which eventually leads to fractures.
Im looking at buying soon and after doing lots of research and driving all the cars I am still torn between: 135. 335. e46 m3. Your looking at close to $30k to get a 135 or 335 with a nice 100,000 mile warranty. Or closer to $20-22k on a e46 m3 with no warranty.

Look for any tears and grease that may have leaked from them. If they are in need of repair have the problem fixed before you buy or adjust your offer accordingly. The control arms/suspension are different up front to allow for the added weight the AWD system brings with it.
I own a 03 BMW E46 M3 SMG trans. I recently installed a stage one clutch kit from DKM on ECS tuning. I have also changed my slave cylinder, bleed the cylinder, and also changed one of my compression spring. But I***8217;m having trouble with my shifts. They delay for about 3-4 second then it changes gear. And when I downshift the car shuts off.
From my reading I see that the subframe issue is pretty common but it seems very very blown out of proportion. I was wondering if any of you guys have ever had subframe issues or is this problem just way blown out of proportion because of the internet horror stories. Either way I will definitely get it addressed before I begin tracking the car.
